Client Brief
The clients required a kitchen that would suit the
contemporary style of their new home. As keen entertainers the kitchen had
to look amazing but also be practical. 2 large sinks, 2 dishwashers, 2 ovens
and an extra bar fridge were prerequisites. Also with 3 growing boys lots
of storage was essential. The kitchen is on the second level in a large
living space and has great views over the garden and beyond to the sea.
Response
Getting involved during the house planning stage allowed the opportunity
to place internal walls at the best position (within the constraints of
the building) to maximise the available space.
The cleverly hidden scullery gives plenty of storage, space to house the
second large sink, the second dishwasher and bar fridge they required.
It also adds the luxury of being able to separate food preparation or
caterers from the main space when entertaining. The perfectly matched
scullery entry door with its matching horizontal grain maximises the visual
width of the kitchen. The door folds inwards, allowing it to be completely
out of the way when open and giving direct access from the main kitchen.
Having the sink and hob on the island allows for the back wall of cabinetry
to be full width and height giving a streamlined clean look, and also
gives the clients opportunity to interact with family and friends and
not have their back to the view.
