Client Brief

The kitchen sits within a large open family room with space for a casual dining table, comfortable couches and large television. This large living area is part of an even larger outdoor courtyard with a long lap pool running parallel to it.

The clients required a modern kitchen designed to suit their large minimalist architectural home. The layout of the kitchen was up to me, but had to be functional and incorporate the 3 Domino hobs, single oven and combination microwave oven the clients had already purchased. They also loved the classic look of marble and needed seating for 3 people, 2 bowls, large capacity fridge / freezer, a location for the sound system subwoofer, and an area for every day appliances that could be hidden from sight when not in use.

Response

From the kitchen the clients can interact with family and friends, keep an eye on any children in the pool, and at no time feel they're missing out on any of the action. The boxed extractor defines the kitchen space and provides subtle perceived separation from the rest of the living area. The huge 4.2 metre long x 1.15 metre wide x 650mm high marble island block has been cantilevered over the stainless steel base, appearing to hover above the White Oak floor.

The two 1800-wide pantries provide ample storage for food and crockery while also providing plenty of space to house everyday appliances permanently plugged in, with the convenience of being able to close the doors when not in use.
